$11.5M for social housing prioritises ageing in place

A new three-storey social development is coming to Stirling, 9km north west of the Perth CBD, in a bid to help address WA’s growing housing shortage.
With a focus on accessibility and ageing in place, the complex will deliver 19 apartments located close to public transport, employment opportunities, schools and retail services.
Two ground-floor apartments will be built to Platinum Level Liveable Housing Australia standards, the highest level of accessibility and adaptability, with the remaining 17 apartments to conform to Silver Level Liveable Housing Australia standards.
Minister for Planning and Lands; Housing and Works; Health Infrastructure, John Carey, said the development forms part of the State Government’s “ambitious agenda to increase the supply of housing for vulnerable Western Australians”.
“This $11.5 million development will mean another 19 new homes in a well-located area,” he said. “Importantly, these homes will be constructed to a high standard so that residents with a range of accessibility needs can be accommodated.”
Delivered through the State’s Social and Affordable Housing Investment Fund, the project will also receive funding from the Department of Planning Lands and Heritage’s Infrastructure Development Fund.
Further operational funding assistance will also be sought through the Federal Government’s Housing Australia Future Fund Facility (HAFF) Round Two.
WA-based company McCorkell Constructions has been selected to lead the build, which will comprise of five one-bedroom, one-bathroom dwellings, two two-bedroom, one-bathroom dwellings and 12 two-bedroom, two-bathroom dwellings.
Construction of the project is due for completion in mid-2028.
