Local government priced out: another council hands over its home care services

1 min read

Indigo Council, which covers Beechworth, Chiltern, Rutherglen and Yackandandah in regional Victoria, will transfer provision of its CHSP, plus home and community care services, to a government-appointed provider in July.

“We are doing this now to give people who receive these services the chance to get used to a new provider before 2020, when it’s anticipated the Commonwealth will open up the market to even more competition,” Mayor Jenny O’Connor said.

As we covered here, many local councils are pulling out of aged care services as they can’t compete with larger operators.

But with the home care waiting list now stretched to over 100,000 people, will its elderly clients miss out?
