HammondCare becomes Sydney’s biggest home care provider

The Greater Sydney and Illawarra home care market is set for a major consolidation.
Not For Profit HammondCare has acquired Anglicare Sydney’s community-based home care services, bringing its total number of home care and CHSP clients to over 11,000.
Home care services delivered by Anglicare Sydney within its retirement villages will stay with the organisation through its For Life program.
The acquisition, which is subject to regulatory approval and transaction completion, will make HammondCare the largest provider of home care services in the Greater Sydney region, and one of the largest in the country.
Under the arrangement, Anglicare Sydney will work to transition approximately 1800 Support at Home clients, as well as service delivery to over 1400 Commonwealth Home Support Program clients to HammondCare across Greater Sydney and the Illawarra.
HammondCare currently has 4,800 Support at Home clients including restorative care and end-of-life pathways programs, and an additional 3,200 CHSP clients.
HammondCare CEO Andrew Thorburn and Anglicare Sydney CEO Simon Miller jointly announced the acquisition.
“This growth in our home care business will enable us to deliver care to even more people and fulfil our mission to improve the quality of life of people in need,” Andrew said.
“And importantly, clients can feel confident knowing they’re supported by an organisation that can continue to meet their needs over time, helping them to live at home for as long as they possibly can.”
The target completion date for the acquisition is 2 November 2026, from which point HammondCare will commence services to clients.
Simon said the introduction of Support at Home is reshaping home care and requires a scale that Anglicare cannot naturally reach in the community.
“HammondCare’s larger scale means they can sustainably operate and grow community-based home care while honouring their missional foundations,” he said.
