Local MP labels Ryman’s planned Mt Eliza village and aged care “gross overdevelopment” – even if cut by 50%

As we covered here, Ryman bought the property from Melbourne University for between $30 and $40 million in September 2016.

The NZ operator wants to build 300 apartments, 91 assisted living suites and 120 aged care beds over 12 buildings up to five storeys plus 393 parking spaces on the 8.9 hectare site at the Moondah Estate on the Mornington Peninsula.

The waterfront property has a special use zoning and sits outside the urban growth boundary, meaning there is “no justification” for the development according to Mornington MP David Morris.

Local advocates say the development is “too big” even if cut by 50% and the site is nearly nine hectares.

Ryman is developing five sites by 2020.
