Not For Profit's $23M 34-aged care bed extension

A $12.85 million Federal Government Aged Care Capital Assistance Program grant, announced in May 2024, is helping a project come to life by June 2027.
The $23 million expansion of Matthew Flinders Care Services' Matthew Flinders Home, in Port Lincoln, 280km west of Adelaide, includes a new wing with 33 rooms, including a couples room, making the expansion 34 beds in total. Overall, the home's capacity will be boosted to 100 beds.
The development will also add new kitchenettes, expanded living areas, a new courtyard, Day Centre, and staff and administration areas. Once the project is complete, the operator will introduce a new food service model to ensure a more home-like environment.
The builder is Badge Construction, who have employed pre-cast concrete panels in the development to improve the build efficiency.
As well as residential aged care, Matthew Flinders Care Services provides a Day Centre, Home Care, and a second-hand shop.
There are currently 453 older people in South Australia's hospital beds waiting for access to residential aged care or home care, close to a record high.
