The head of the NSW Fair Trading Inquiry has met with Aged & Community Services (ACSA), Leading Aged Services Australia (LASA), the Retirement Living Council (RLC) and Aveo representatives at a roundtable forum on 5 October.
Key take outs from the day include:
- Rates of complaints are low compared to other domestic property complaints
- A requirement for compulsory accreditation
- Education seen as vital for both industry and consumers
- The need for a code of conduct for village operators
- Revising the new NSW Fair Trading retirement village calculator to calculate a resident’s financial position at any given time
ACSA has also announced it will make a submission to the Inquiry based on its own nine-point plan – which is virtually identical to the RLC’s eight-point plan.
