The Aged and Community Services Australia (ACSA) CEO has addressed the recent aged care investigation by journalist Michael Bachelard with an impassioned piece in the Fairfax Media to push for greater funding for the sector.
“One of the problems we often see is a mismatch between what the community expects us to deliver, and what we are funded to deliver,” she writes.
“We need to address the financial sustainability of the system, but we also need to shift our service delivery to what it is that older Australians want and the way that they want to receive aged care.”
Ms Sparrow says she wants a “constructive community dialogue” about expectations on providers and how this can be funded in a sustainable way – not a bad thing.
But the sector also needs to be prepared to engage in this conversation – and have the information the community wants.
