Prediction: advertising as we know it will be destroyed by “voice activation”

Whilst it may not happen tomorrow, experts predict that online search as we know it (think Google with pages of search results) may soon be put on the shelf with CD’s, tapes and DVD’s.

Why? Because Voice First devices such as Google Home and Amazon Echo will become your customers “go-to” for information instead of good ol’ Google search.

Brian Roemmele, Alchemist and Metaphysician says that in 10 years 50% of all human to computer interactions will be voice-meditated AI.

So, what does this mean for us Marketers?

If there’s no Google search then there’s no Google adwords, no banner advertising and no reason to have a high SEO ranking. The tools we use to currently promote our products and reach our audience will become inadequate.

Breathe … it’s okay.

Web-based search, at least for our target 50+ generation, will not disappear (phew) but our cohort has shown that they will adapt quickly...

Unfortunately, no one has anything concrete about what advertising in a Voice First platform will look like. However, I imagine Google is moments away from launching a solution, after all … if they’re taking paying advertisers away from Google Search they’re going to have to find a pretty impressive alternative.
