1 min read

The Not For Profit has hosted a two-day Palliative Care Conference on the Sunshine Coast, providing an opportunity to talk about the benefits of palliative care, and celebrate those working and volunteering locally in the field.

Sundale resident, Bonnie Thomas, delivered the keynote address and shared her story about the importance of quality, compassionate palliative care.

“My husband of 66 years, Brian passed away almost a year ago from Parkinson’s Disease,” Bonnie said.

“For the last three years of Brian’s life he was a resident at Coolum Waters Care Centre, while I was able to live at Sundale’s co-located retirement community.

“To Brian and I, palliative care was making the best of life while we were together, irrespective of his diagnosis.”

The event was funded in part by End of Life Directions for Aged Care (ELDAC), a guide to help aged care staff and health professionals meet the needs of older Australians coming to the end of their life.
