Key points

Roshana buys three NSW homes

  • 292 beds: Three Hunter Valley homes acquired
  • 20 homes: Roshana reaches national scale milestone
  • Consolidation: Smaller operators continue to exit
  • Expansion: Growth strategy accelerates beyond WA

Small NSW regional aged care provider Hunter Valley Care is selling its three aged care homes to a fast-growing private operator.

The buyer is Roshana Aged Care, which is rapidly expanding through acquisitions across the country. In February, the Perth-based operator announced its expansion into South Australia with the purchase of the 80-bed Lerwin Residential Care, 80km southwest of central Adelaide.

With heavier compliance requirements under the new Aged Care Act, rising costs and thin margins in residential aged care, this latest transaction underscores the trend towards consolidation in the sector.

Hunter Valley Care began providing care in the region in 1981, and operated three aged care homes. Director Malcolm Proctor also owns Support at Home provider, Empowered Living Support Services, based in Tingira Heights, Newcastle.

All three homes have been rebranded and will be transferred to Roshana Care Group:

  • Roshana Fig Tree Aged Care, with 75 beds, located in Toronto, 28km southwest of the Newcastle CBD;
  • Roshana Waterview Aged Care, with 97 beds, in Teralba, 20km southwest of the Newcastle CBD; and
  • Roshana Amaroo Aged Care, with 120 beds, in Charlestown, 12km west of the Newcastle CBD.

The acquisition will take Roshana Care Group to 20 homes as the group ambitiously pursues national scale.

The operator also has approval to build a $30 million 81-bed aged care home in Lesmurdie, 20km east of the Perth CBD.

Roshana Care Group CEO Dr Rosh Jalagge

Roshana Care Group is pursuing a vertically integrated model of care, with aged care, healthcare, and community care investments, further diversifying income streams.

“Each of these homes has a unique history, a strong sense of community, and meaningful connections that have been built over many years,” said Roshana Care Group on LinkedIn.

“As demand for quality aged care continues to grow, this expansion allows us to extend our reach and ensure more individuals and families have access to the trusted care and support they deserve.”

The Weekly SOURCE has put questions about the acquisition to Roshana Care Group but had yet to receive a response at the time of publication.
