Royal Commission to resume hearings in three weeks in Melbourne – looking at mental health, oral health and allied health care

1 min read

The Commissioners have announced they will be picking up right where they left off on 20 March – three months ago – when the Royal Commission was forced to shelve its public hearings, workshops and group consultations due to COVID-19.

The hearing – originally scheduled for 30 March to 1 April in Adelaide – will now take place in Melbourne from 15 to 17 July and look into how mental health, oral health and allied health care could be improved for people accessing aged care services, including through:

  • increased funding and/or alternative funding models
  • incentives for health care professionals to provide services at an individual’s place of residence
  • increased training for aged care workers
  • clarifying responsibilities of approved providers and implementing performance measures or performance indicators.

Applications for leave to appear at the hearing are now due by COB this Friday, 26 June.

The hearings will be closed to the public because of COVID-19 restrictions, but media will be able to attend so I will be there (depending on the COVID environment) to report on the latest news again in The Daily COMMISSION.
