Signature Care to build new 180-bed home in Wagga Wagga

Signature Care is building a new aged care home in Wagga Wagga, in the NSW Riverina, and plans to work closely with local training organisations.

The site at Turvey Park – formerly an Air Force base, then Charles Sturt University dormitories – will be converted into Wagga Wagga Community Aged Care.

Initially hosting 144 beds, the facility will eventually expand to 180 single ensuite rooms, with 24/7 nursing plus amenities such as cinema, café, pool room, physio room, hair salon, and a wellness studio for GP appointments.

According to Martin Jones, GM Client Services at Signature Care (pictured), the facility will work with local schools and training organisations to help students identify career pathways and opportunities in the aged care sector.

“Our plan is to work closely with Charles Sturt University and those enrolled and graduating from the Bachelor of Nursing course being offered at the Wagga Campus. Wagga Wagga TAFE presents further opportunities through its Aged Care, Nursing and Lifestyle courses.

“Here, students will be able to gain valuable first-hand education and training with us. Local RTOs also provide an opportunity through their education sessions specific to roles within aged care,” he said.

The home is scheduled to open in November 2022. Another Signature Care home in NSW, slated for Goulburn, is going ahead after the company prevailed in a court case against Goulburn Council last year; other planned NSW sites include Tamworth and Grafton.
