Summerset sells 24% of assisted living at first Melbourne village

The care centre in the New Zealand operator’s first retirement village in Cranbourne North, 39km southeast of the Melbourne CBD, opened in late April.

Summerset Chief Executive Scott Scoullar, announcing the Group’s 2Q26 metrics, said Cranbourne North was one of four new village centre buildings opened during the first half of the year.

The village centre includes 33 assisted living apartments and a 72-suite residential aged care home designed around a small-household model.

Eight of the assisted living apartments have been sold, while 20 residents are living in the aged care home, which is now fully operational.

The CEO visited the village in June to mark the milestone.

“These buildings are central to the resident experience in our villages and provide the care, support and amenity our residents value. We’re pleased with the level of interest and sales momentum across these villages’ new buildings,” Scott said.

Summerset Group reported 448 sales for the quarter ending 30 June 2026, comprising 221 new sales and 227 resales. Total new sales were in line with Q2 2025 while resales increased 26%.

"We continue to make good progress across our Australian sites, including Cranbourne North now open and operating, Chirnside Park due to open later this year, and Oakleigh South is advancing well through construction,” the CEO added.

Stages 1-3 of Cranbourne North are now completed, including the village centre building. Stages 4-6 are ongoing, with the company stating:

• Stage 4 (19 Independent Living Units) – expected commencement Q1 2027 and completion Q4 2027;
• Stage 5 (36 ILU Units) – expected commencement Q4 2027 and completion Q4 2028; and
• Stage 6 (25 ILU Units) – expected commencement Q4 2028 and completion Q4 2029.
