Key points
  • Project underway: Former Yungala seniors living re-emerges as Lakeview
  • 89 apartments: Over-55s strata development starts from $825,000
  • Flexible ownership: Buyers of any age can purchase if one resident is over 55
  • Ageing in place: Homes feature universal design with direct club access

A $36.3 million seniors living development approved for the NSW Central Coast is challenging assumptions about who can buy into an over-55s community.

Originally approved in October 2022 as the Yungala seniors living development at Diggers@The Entrance in Long Jetty, the project is now being marketed as Lakeview Long Jetty by developer Surewin Australia, the owner and operator of IBIS Styles Long Jetty.

The 89-apartment development will operate under the Retirement Villages Act while also being sold under strata title. While designed for over-55s, anyone aged 18 and over can purchase an apartment provided at least one permanent resident is aged 55 or older.

Ray White PMC principal Peter Shield said the arrangement created greater flexibility for a range of buyers.

“This means, for example, if you’re over 55 and say your partner is 30 or 40, that’s okay, you can live here,” he said.
“Also you can have your kids live here or friends or anyone of any ages, as long as one person who occupies the residence is over 55 years of age.”

The development will comprise 89 independent living apartments across two buildings ranging from two to five storeys. Buyers can choose from two-bedroom, three-bedroom and four-bedroom penthouse apartments, with prices starting from $825,000 for a two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment with one car space.

Demolition has been completed and the site cleared ahead of construction.

Designed by ADG Architects, the apartments incorporate universal accessibility features including lift access, larger bathrooms, scooter storage and parking to support residents ageing in place.

Residents will also have direct undercover access to the adjoining Diggers@The Entrance hospitality and entertainment precinct, with cafés, restaurants and community facilities located nearby.
