The Whiddon Group gets go-ahead for $28.5M aged care expansion in Newcastle – “compliance unnecessary”

1 min read

The NSW-based Not For Profit has been approved for a new two-storey 80-bed aged care facility and a two-storey 24-bed extension to its existing 60-bed aged care home at Redhead, 11km from the Newcastle CBD.

While the rear of the site has a one-storey height limit, the local Council agreed that compliance in this case was “unnecessary and unreasonable” given the economic and social benefits of the extension to the local community.

A new central campus green space hub, club facilities and café will also be built on the site, which is home to a 30-unit retirement village too.

The Whiddon Group now has 18 aged care facilities and 12 retirement villages in NSW and earlier this year made its first move into QLD by acquiring an existing aged care facility in Beaudesert.
