The Tasmanian Not For Profit opened two new wings at Lillian Martin aged care home in February, and now has lodged plans with City of Clarence Council for a further expansion.

Stage 1 involved construction of the Fuchsia and Sassafras Wings at Lillian Martin aged care home in Mornington, 8km northeast of the Hobart CBD, which has been in operation since 1960.

Now Uniting AgeWell had lodged plans for Stage 2, include the following changes.

  • On the Lower Ground Level, an additional 59 beds will be built, increasing the total number of beds from 111 to 128. 42 existing beds will have to be demolished. New social and care spaces also be added.
  • On the upper level, the existing Ground Level, 31 new residential aged care beds, plus social and care spaces, will be added.
  • A new central laundry is proposed to improve workflow and support the increased number of beds.
  • An additional staff area is proposed to provide a comfortable space for rest, including staff amenities and a kitchenette.
  • The new beds are organised into smaller households of approximately 12-16 beds.

The Lillian Martin aged care home has been in operation since 1960 or 66 years.
