VALE Peter BURGESS, 2 November 1957 – 19 February 2021

1 min read

Peter passed away peacefully on Friday morning, 19 February 2021 after a long battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family at his bedside.

Peter was a leader in the modern retirement village sector.

In 1991, then aged 32, Peter made a personal decision to leave a corporate career with Manchester Unity, reskill and seek work in the retirement village sector.

In 1992, Peter joined Bill Riddington (Life Member of the Property Council) at Retirement Living Services (RLS) and together with a third partner, Andrew Latimer, they quickly repositioned RLS to be a leading management company with equity positions in several communities. In 2003, RLS was sold to Australian Unity, and Peter, together with his partners, formed Vision Lifestyle Projects, an advisory, management and marketing company that still prospers today.

He was an intelligent and thoughtful man, and most of all was a man of values.

Peter leaves several legacies:

  • Introducing home care packages into retirement villages – Peter was successful in becoming the largest holder of pilot packages in 2002.
  • Inspired management on the foundation of ‘balancing the competing interests of all the stakeholders’;
  • The Community Vitality tool, a philosophy and benchmarking tool measuring the things that matter most in a retirement community.

A values-driven man – Peter’s passing is a loss to the industry.
