$4.5M independent living village coming to WA Goldfields

1 min read

The West Australian Government has kicked in $3.5 million towards a new independent living village in the Goldfields region, with the tender now awarded for the project.

Leonora (pictured above), 237km north of Kalgoorlie and 833km northeast of Perth, will receive eight new independent living units as well as a community hall, gardens, and barbecues, all constructed by Majstrovich Building Company.

The Shire of Leonora will contribute $1 million towards the project, with the State Government’s Regional Aged Accommodation Program providing the rest of the funding; Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan says the village will help seniors remain in the community.

“This project will go a long way in assisting with the demand for independent living units in the Northern Goldfields.

“It will create a seniors hub where both residents and community members can actively participate in village life. We look forward to work getting underway in Leonora in coming months,” she said.

The WA Goldfields received funding for another village, in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, in 2019.
