“About time”: majority of aged care operators want single peak body, webinar hears

1 min read

Aged care providers have expressed support for a new industry association for the sector during a webinar on the proposed body – and retirement living operators are among the groups being invited to join the new organisation.

As we reported here, ACSA and LASA committed to forming a new peak body in December after a Steering Committee was established to look at creating a single industry association.

In a webinar on Monday hosted by the Steering Committee for the new association and transformation consultant Nous Group, 85% of the 400 participants said that they supported the new single association, while 3% said that they did not and 12% were unsure.

Membership will be based on the ‘one member, one vote’ rule with membership fees structured according to the size of the organisation.

Membership will also be open to providers with aligned services, for example, disability services and retirement living, while associate memberships will be available to other peak bodies and representative organisations.

In addition, the new body will establish Board sub-committees as well as membership advisory committees and communities of practice with the new Board expected to be announced in May.

A paper will now be distributed to ACSA and LASA members on 7 April before a scheduled vote by members on the new organisation on 29 April before the new association commences in the second half of 2022.

The new organisation’s first step will be to present a reform reset paper to the new Government, said LASA CEO Sean Rooney, with the board and executive team to look to build on plans for an advocacy strategy.
