AMNF increases pressure on politicians in its ‘More Staff for Aged Care’ campaign

1 min read

The Australian Nursing & Midwifery Federation (ANMF) is again playing to a strategy, asking supporters to sign a digital letter to their local MP calling for staff ratio laws in aged care.

The letter, addressed from Federal Secretary Annie Butler, cites a “tragic increase in preventable deaths of Australians in aged care” with “hundreds dying from falls, choking and suicide.”

The wording is clever, designed to elicit an emotive response from the reader using the character of elderly resident ‘Ruby’.

“Every day we don’t have ratio laws is another day we risk losing more people like Ruby to preventable accidents. It’s time to act for Ruby,” it reads.

The ANMF is also promoting a new video “It’s Time To Act For Ruby” which they are asking supporters to share with their family and friends – you can watch it HERE.

With the Prime Minister now announcing a Royal Commission into the sector, we expect the ANMF will only be stepping up its crusade.
