Bupa faces its ninth aged care home sanction in past 12 months

1 min read

Bupa’s Eden facility on the NSW South Coast will be unable to accept new residents or receive new Commonwealth funding for six months after the Department of Health made a serious risk decision against the facility.

An audit conducted between July and August 2018 found the home failed to meet seven of the 44 accreditation standards including clinical care, specialised nursing care needs, pain management and skin care.

Bupa now has nine homes currently sanctioned, while findings of non-compliance have been made against another eight.

The provider has told the ABC that it takes the Department of Health’s sanctions and non-compliance notices “extremely seriously”.

“This situation is unacceptable and our focus in resolving these matters is based upon placing residents and their families as our number one priority,” it said in a statement.

Bupa has already appointed former Health Services Commissioner of Victoria Beth Wilson as an independent consumer advocate to speak for residents and families at the affected facilities.
