Catholic Healthcare lodges plans for $76M village and aged care precinct to replace Sydney bowling club

As we covered here, the Not for Profit paid $28.5 million for the former Maroubra Sport Club in 2016, which is one block back from Maroubra Beach, 10km southeast of the CBD.

Now they have lodged an application for 63 one-, two- and three-bedroom independent living units, a 108-bed aged care facility and community hub ranging from two to four storeys on the 10,850 sqm site, which is zoned for private recreation.

Maroubra RSL had continued to use the site as a club, with the permission of the provider. Catholic Healthcare is now seeking to rezone the site for residential development citing an undersupply of aged care beds in the local area.

The Not For Profit currently has 41 aged care facilities and 10 retirement villages including two in the Randwick Council catchment but says there is high demand for more beds in Maroubra, with just 261 available for a 70-plus population of 3,664.

The provider adds its strategic focus has been strengthening their response to people with less means, with 49% of its aged care residents paying no entry fees in June 2017.
