Disgraced Apostolatos brothers’ Chronos Care aged care home to fetch over $9M

1 min read

One of two Chronos Care aged care homes in Melbourne leased by two bankrupt brothers Chris and Gerry Apostolatos, who had been banned from running a company after the death of 86,000 chickens, is for sale with two adjoining houses.

The 7207sqm property in Alphington, 7km northeast of Melbourne’s CBD, was opened by the brothers in 2014, just months before they were banned from running a business and declared bankrupt owing $5 million.

The brothers continued to hold an interest in Chronos Care via a family trust and Gerry Apostolatos’s stepdaughter, Rita Kohu, acted as company director. Rita put Chronos Care into administration on July 30 last year but liquidators believe it was likely insolvent and unable to pay its debts from at least January 2021.

The liquidators are seeking to offload the assets of the aged care home as part of an auction.

An investigation continues into what happened to more than $16 million in Refundable Accommodation Deposits (RADs) made by residents their families.
