La Trobe University reveals plans for $400M healthcare hub with aged care, private hospital and childcare on Melbourne campus

The university is looking for development and operating partners for a 240-bed aged care facility, 125-bed private hospital and consulting suites to be built on a 3.55ha parcel of land at its main Bundoora campus, 16km north of the CBD.

Another large building is also being mooted for assisted living and retirement units, while a childcare centre will cater for 125 children.

The site is already home to an existing medical centre and a small 39-bed hospital which will be converted into a primary healthcare clinic.

La Trobe Vice-President (Development) Natalie MacDonald says the development is based on growing demand in the region which has an undersupply of 210 hospital beds and 73 allied health service providers.

“There’s also a need for additional aged care capacity,” she added.
