A proposal has been lodged for a three-storey independent living development comprising 23 retirement units in Roselands, 16km southwest of Sydney’s CBD.

Not For Profit Leigh Place Aged Care has lodged a development application with Canterbury-Bankstown City Council to demolish four single storey cottages to build the units.

The four single-storey homes that will be demolished

The plan includes:

  • Ground level: two one-bedroom and five two-bedroom units and a community room.
  • First and second levels: two one-bedroom and six two-bedroom units.

The development will allow people who live in the apartments to relocate onsite within the aged care facility, the 68-bed Leigh Place Aged Care, if required, the application states.

A separate application will also be lodged concurrently for another independent living unit building and an aged care facility.

Jackson Teece Architects have been engaged by Leigh Place Aged Care to prepare the design for the proposed development.

The exhibition period for the development application ended on Tuesday, 19 May.

Leigh Place opened in 1989 as a joint venture between Canterbury City Council and the NSW Department of Housing. The Chief Executive Officer is Joe Azzi.
