QLD: residents forced to raise ‘fighting fund’ after developer lodges appeal for eight-storey retirement village in Brisbane

1 min read

The new wave of consumer advocacy: As we covered here, the proposal for the development in Forest Lake was the subject of a major advocacy campaign with hundreds of residents attending meetings and signing a petition against the plan which was knocked back by Brisbane City Council last July.

Now JRD Number 2 director Jim Dupuis has lodged an appeal against the council decision with the Planning and Environment Court  for a revised, six-storey design.

13 residents leading the opposition have become co-respondents in the appeal, with Forest Lake solicitor Gregory Huddleston and town planner Shane Howard representing the group pro bono.

The residents will still have to fund the cost of a barrister and other appeal costs however – a significant chunk of money.
