QLD’s Public Advocate warns against “criminal treatment” of aged care residents: The Courier-Mail

1 min read

Mary Burgess says aged care staff are being exposed to the risk of criminal prosecution because of the existing lack of regulation around residents being illegally sedated or tied down (suggesting staff are committing an illegal act restraining residents).

Ms Burgess also told the federal parliamentary inquiry into aged care abuse her office is fielding an increasing number of complaints about abuse and neglect in Queensland aged care homes.

Queensland’s Public Guardian, Natalie Siegel-Brown also presented similar evidence of abuse in aged care to the inquiry.
