Retirement village suggested for bowling club carpark in Port Macquarie, NSW

The Port City Bowling Club at Port Macquarie on the NSW Mid North Coast is contemplating a number of options for the redevelopment of its carpark, including a retirement village.

The club has sought expressions of interest – including via advertising in The Weekly SOURCE – for a joint venture to overhaul the existing 119-space, 5400 square metre carpark. It has had 11 responses.

Club CEO David Gearing told the Mid North Coast News that mostly residential accommodation has been put forward by developers, including a retirement living proposal.

“Repurposing the space has been looked at before, about five or six years ago. In an effort to continue the 85-year legacy the club has built, we’re reassessing those underutilised assets and exploring options as we try to take the establishment to the next level,” he said.

The club will review its options over the course of this month; any proposal accepted must have at least 150 car spaces attached.
