Royal Commission into age care: funding and ‘bureaucratic spaghetti’ identified

1 min read

12 witnesses appeared at the Royal Commission in Adelaide across Monday to Wednesday.

You will have received our new newsletter, The Daily COMMISSION, each day at 6am that delivers the highlights of the inquiry.

Barbara Spriggs and her son Clive introduced the negative human experience that can be Australian aged care.

All the other witnesses for the week were giving background information to the Commissioners.

The summary: the funding is not adequate for the number and quality of staff the community expects in aged care and home care, compounded by complex and at times mindless bureaucracy.

Several witnesses, led by Ian Yates of COTA, firmly said that underfunding was no excuse for poor performance. But the Commissioners can be in no doubt that every negative they hear will share these root causes.

This week there are five days of witness examination.

The Daily COMMISSION will be delivered to you free for the next two weeks.
