Two South Australian retirement living providers are set to join forces under a proposed merger.

Northern Yorke Peninsula Homes (NYP Homes) and RSL Care SA have announced their plans to merge, saying the decision marks an important step toward strengthening retirement living services for residents on the Northern Yorke Peninsula.

NYP Homes operates 29 retirement units over three sites in Kadina, a town on the Yorke Peninsula, 144km north-northwest of Adelaide: Wontama, the RSL units, and Russen Place.

Established 56 years ago, the organisation has been operated through a small group of local volunteer community members.

“The growing complexities in legislation and expanding responsibilities have grown beyond the capacity and scope for current voluntary members to continue as is and we seek a similar organisation to continue our legacy,” said Sheree Penney, Chair of the Board of NYP Homes.

RSL Care SA currently manages 688 retirement living homes. In July last year, the operator aquired Hallmont Estate’s two retirement villages in Mount Gambier, 450km from the state capital.

Residents of NYP Homes have been assured their tenancies remain secure, and residents’ rights, independence and lifestyles will be respected and protected throughout and beyond the merger process.

“RSL Care SA brings the experience, scale and organisational capacity needed to manage NYP Homes effectively and to further develop the village communities into the future,” said RSL Care SA in a statement.

“This merger reflects a shared and ongoing commitment by both organisations to high-quality housing, strong local connections and resident-focused service delivery.”

The Boards of NYP Homes and RSL Care SA are now working through the final stages of the merger agreements. Subject to their successful completion, a formal date for the merger will be announced in the near future.
