Ryman gets green light for big co-located village and aged care in Melbourne

1 min read

The NZ village operator has announced it will start work on its second village at Brandon Park, 24km from the Melbourne CBD – with the vacant 5.6ha site eventually to be home to 199 aged care rooms, 94 serviced apartments and 328 independent living units, housing over 700 retirees.

Ryman Managing Director Simon Challies says the village is a big commitment – and a sign Ryman means business in Melbourne. “Sites this large in urban Melbourne are rare and the village is as large as anything we have built before,” he said.

Since their first Melbourne village opened in 2014, Ryman has set a target of matching their NZ build rate with five villages in Australia by 2020.

Ryman’s other villages in development include a 2.5ha site in Burwood East; a 1.2 ha site in Coburg, 10km from the CBD; and the 8.9ha Moondah Estate at Mount Eliza, about 45 minutes from the city on the Mornington Peninsula.
