Ryman names its latest Melbourne village after athletic great Raelene Boyle

1 min read

Ryman Healthcare has named its newest Melbourne retirement village in Aberfeldie, 9km north-west of the CBD, in honour of one of Australia’s greatest Olympians, Raelene Boyle.

The naming is a homecoming of sorts for the Queensland-based Ms Boyle, who grew up in the nearby suburb of Coburg, said the New Zealand-based company.

Ms Boyle, who has been awarded an AM and MBE, represented Australia at three Olympic Games as a sprinter, winning three silver medals, and was named one of 100 National Living Treasures by the National Trust of Australia in 1998. She was the first female Olympian to be chosen as Australia’s flagbearer.

The Raelene Boyle Retirement Village will include 64 independent apartments, assisted living in 27 serviced apartments and a 74-bed aged care centre, a total of 180 residents.
