Singing opera? China’s new breed of senior care robots set to go into mass production of robots

1 min read

The recent 2018 World Robot Conference in Beijing showcased a number of models being developed for both the domestic and international market including the voice- and touch-controlled iPal, that provides simple conversation, gives weather reports, reminds users to take their medication and sings the aforementioned opera.

Another model, the P-Care monitor seniors’ health conditions by measuring their blood pressure, body temperature, and heart rate as well as serving food and drinks and acting as a walking aid and is currently being promoted to Chinese nursing homes and hospitals.

The number of people aged 60 or above in China is expected to peak at 487 million around 2050 – 34.9% of the population – but with care services not sufficient enough to meet demand, the robots are expected to fill the gap.
