Stockland submits plan for $110M senior housing precinct in north west Sydney

Sydney-based property group Stockland had lodged plans to build a new seniors’ living precinct in north west Sydney.

The project, valued at just over $110 million, is for 231 freestanding seniors’ houses at Hills Shire’s newest suburb, the 293-hectare The Gables, where Stockland is building more than 3,600 residential homes, a retail and commercial centre and a new $150 million school.

The site is located approximately 50km north west of Sydney’s CBD.

“An over 60s development would be a welcome addition to The Gables, appealing to people who want to stay in the Hills District or (remain) close to their families,” Stockland’s project director, Ken Franklin said.

“Future residents will live in a community … where someone else takes care of the lawns, the pool and other communal spaces.”

Planning documents state eight of the new dwellings will be used as exhibition homes, representing the different options for seniors. Each of the seniors’ single storey homes will feature two or three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a double garage.

There are also plans for a future leisure precinct, containing a wellness centre, 25 metre pool, function room, bar, library, games room and community garden.

The application is before the Sydney Central City Planning Panel.
