Sydney aged care worker charged with assault after daughter places camera in room

1 min read

This story was everywhere in the media this week. 35-year-old Prakash Paudyal is accused of entering the 82-year-old man’s room at the Bupa aged care facility in Seaforth a number of times between 26 August and 29 August and assaulting him.

The footage is disturbing – at one stage, the worker hits the resident with a shoe.

The man’s daughter says that her father suffers from dementia and she first noticed bruising on his body months ago. When his condition continued to deteriorate, she set up a camera which allegedly recorded the assault.

Bupa says they are “shocked and saddened” by the incident and are cooperating with police, while Mr Paudyal has been dismissed from his job and will face court again next week.

A reminder that despite the legal implications, families do take matters into their own hands when they suspect something is wrong.
