Sydney bowls club fights off retirement village redevelopment – but loses financial lifeline

The Waverley Bowling Club

As we reported here, the Easts Group had planned to relocate the Waverley Bowling Club in Sydney’s eastern suburbs to the Bondi Golf and Diggers Club 3km away and redevelop the Waverley site into a retirement village and childcare centre.

But the Club’s members have voted down the plan, saying they expected Easts – which took over the Club in 2010 – to upgrade the facility, not move it.

We have to ask though: where will the 100-year-old Club find the money to keep its doors open now?
