Tempus retirement village in Tasmania a step closer to realisation

1 min read

The development of stage 1A of Tempus, a proposed 18-hectare retirement village on Tasmania’s East Coast, is a step closer to reality.

Glamorgan Spring Bay Council unanimously passed the development application for the retirement village, which is a joint venture between Kelvedon Estate and Tempus Village Management, 5km south of Swansea, 104km from Hobart.

As we reported in March, the Cotton family, who own Kelvedon Estate, and the locally formed Tempus Village Management Ltd, a new player in the system, are building on 17.9 hectares of Cotton farmland.

Plans include three levels of care – 140 independent living units (ILUs) (one-, two- and three-bedroom, two ba2throom), 30 assisted living units and 44 nursing home suites, including a dementia ward. Every home will have a view over Oyster Bay.

Facilities, which the developers say will be open to the public, will include a café, theatre, function hall, stables and indoor arena, workshops, greenhouse, library, 20m pool, gymnasium, fire pit and barbecue area, children’s play area and leash free dog areas.

The development application will now go before the Tasmanian Planning Commission for final approval. It has been in the planning stage since November 2018.
