UK: 75% of aged care homes failing in some areas – including exclusive central London

1 min read

2,000 of the 5,300 homes inspected by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) this year have been found to be ‘requiring improvement’ or ‘inadequate’, with London’s most exclusive suburbs some of the worst offenders.

50% of homes in Westminster are failing and 75% in Kensington and Chelsea are labelled as requiring improvement. In total, 93% of areas across the country have aged care homes that need improvement.

Kensington and Chelsea council has blamed its small number of homes for the poor results, but an earlier CQC report has revealed that it has problems attracting low-paid staff to the most expensive part of the country – a problem that will be familiar to operators here.
