VIC: former aged care worker jailed for kissing sexual assault on aged care resident – for one month

1 min read

Gary Cripps, 63, has pled guilty at Geelong Magistrates Court to two counts of sexual assault against 62-year-old Jeanette Post, who had early-onset Alzheimer’s, while she was a resident at an aged care home in Ocean Grove, 22km from Geelong.

The court heard Cripps kissed Ms Post, on her lips, face, chest and hands while she was in his care in the special needs unit of the home.

Ms Post died three months later, and her daughter told the court the family saw a rapid decline in her mother’s health after the assault.

Magistrate Peter Mellas said Cripps was in a position of trust and Ms Post’s family had a right to believe she was safe.

Cripps was sentenced to one month in jail, followed by an 18-month community corrections order and will be put on the sex offenders register for 15 years.
