VMCH repurposes vacant aged care home as first-ever $8.8M palliative care centre in Melbourne

The Not For Profit has begun construction on a new 22-bed home that will repurpose its vacant 42-bed O’Neill Aged Care Residence in Prahran, 8km southeast of the Melbourne CBD, after the original building was deemed to be no longer fit for purpose.

The O’Neill Comfort Care Centre – to be run in partnership with Catholic health service Cabrini Health – will be built by Richmond-based construction company, Bowden Corporation, with bedrooms designed to allow families and friends to stay overnight, either within the resident’s room or in a dedicated family apartment.

The centre is expected to open in early 2021.

VMCH has 14 retirement villages and 11 aged care homes across Victoria, plus home care, disability and carer support services.
