110 seniors’ living units proposed for Hornsby RSL in northern Sydney

A 110-unit seniors’ living development could be coming to Sydney’s North under new plans for the Hornsby RSL.

The six-storey complex would form part of the redeveloped RSL precinct, which would also include 164 residential apartments, a 114-room hotel, a function centre, a restaurant, and 323 parking spaces.

Under the plans, the development would take in the current club building, as well as six vacant lots currently in use as a COVID-19 testing clinic, and two other nearby properties; the aim is to increase housing supply for both seniors and non-seniors in the area.

“The proposal aims to provide for development that reflects an appropriate balance of commercial, residential and community uses that will contribute to the rejuvenation of the Hornsby Town Centre and reinforce and strengthen its viability as a commercial core," the plan reads.

“The proposed building heights are consistent with the urban structure and concepts identified in the draft HTC Masterplan.”

Other RSL clubs are also considering vertical villages on-site, including Gladesville RSL in Sydney.
