ABC investigation sees results: Newcastle aged care facility has accreditation revoked

1 min read

The national broadcaster has reported repeatedly on a number of alleged failings in care at the Tinonee Gardens aged care home in Waratah over the past five months.

Now the Australian Aged Care Quality Agency (AACQA) has revoked its accreditation for the second time in a year from 2 November 2018, meaning the home will no longer be eligible for Government subsidies.

The AACQA found that Tinonee, which is a Not For Profit, stand-alone operator, met only 31 of the 44 accreditation standards, including having enough skilled and qualified staff, clinical care and pain management.

Tinonee can appeal the decision – if the original decision is reconfirmed, they can also ask the Administrative Appeals Tribunal for a review.

We expect that the ABC will let us know if they do.
