Aged care regulator pays thousands for emotional intelligence training

The Government body tasked with protecting and improving the health, safety and wellbeing of aged care residents is improving its communication.

The Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission (ACQSC) has commissioned PD (Personal Development) Unit Trust to conduct ‘Emotional Intelligence Training’ at a cost to taxpayers of $17,325.

The contract ran from 12 May 2026 until 30 June 2026 and was awarded through a competitive tender.

“Emotional intelligence training has been completed by staff in our Intake and Complaints Branch to help with customer interaction and team management, where emotional sensitivity and sound judgement are essential,” a spokesperson for the ACQSC told The Weekly SOURCE.
“We regularly review and respond to workforce learning and development needs.”

Complaints to the regulator soared 30% in the first two months the sector operated under the new Aged Care Act, a trend that would undoubtedly have put pressure on staff.
