Devastating ‘A Current Affair’ retirement village program – operators cancelling advertising

1 min read

Regional advertisers are reporting they have cancelled their ad spend – which had been increasing – with their TV stations that carry A Current Affair after its Monday night expose on the retirement village sector that roped in the Four Corners and Fairfax reports.

The story commenced with the Berkeley Living village story but then labeled the whole sector as needing an overhaul. See it HERE.

An example of one comment:

“I have directed our local 9 team to…. withdrawing advertising until balanced reporting including good news stories showcasing the new ultra-modern villages or those who are providing consistent high-quality services to seniors is programmed on A Current Affair”.

Media history shows that it needs big dollar numbers to make a network give up rating generating content. What do you think the sector response should be and your response as an individual operator?
