Edwards Group announces $20M expansion of Waikerie Lifestyle Village in SA

There is an insatiable demand for new land lease developments as the $20 million expansion of the village on the banks of Murray River in SA is announced.

Civil contractor LAKA Civil is expected to break ground for the infrastructure this month, with the first residents moving in from May next year.

“We have seen a shift from having spec homes available for sale at our Open Days to retirees buying off the plan and moving in as soon as a home is built,” said Waikerie Lifestyle Village Community Manager Doug Rogers.

“The last spec homes of the previous development sold quickly earlier this year, within weeks of the plans being released for sale on our website, some even before they hit the market.”

Edwards Group CEO Stephen Edwards, also CEO of Destination Homes Australia and Vice President of SA Parks, said demand for land lease homes was behind the release of further land development at Waikerie Lifestyle Resort.

“As more retirees start to realise the financial benefits of choosing to retire in a land lease community over conventional retirement villages and homes, the demand for our Village is increasing as is evident in the speed of sale for the final homes in Stage 4,” he said.

“This demand has allowed Waikerie Lifestyle Village to expand and bring not only 140 new residents to Waikerie in the coming years but also spend a significant proportion of our investment with local and regional based trades and contractors.”
