A retirement village resident has had a lucky escape after a fire broke out in his unit.

The fire protection system, including sprinklers, helped contain the fire to the single unit at Hall & Prior Health & Aged Care Group’s retirement village on the NSW South Coast.

The occupant of the unit at Blue Haven Bonaira in Kiama, a male resident in his 80s, was home at the time and thankfully escaped without injury.

Chief Executive Officer Graeme Prior AM, said Fire and Rescue NSW and NSW Ambulance attended the site.

“Five residents have been supported with temporary accommodation while the Hall & Prior team undertakes cleanup works relating to water damage,” Graeme said.
“Our highest priority is safeguarding the safety and wellbeing of residents, staff and visitors, while maintaining continuity of care and the high standards of service that residents of Blue Haven Bonaira, along with their families and carers, expect.”
