QLD Coroner investigating death at Japara’s Noosa aged care home after alleged assault

1 min read

The Queensland Coroner is investigating the death of a resident from Japara’s Noosa Aged Care Home in Tewantin after they were allegedly assaulted.

On October 20, 2020, the aged care resident was transferred to hospital before subsequently passing away after the alleged assault.

The Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission (ACQSC) conducted an unannounced site review after the alleged incident between 27 and 31 October and identified an ‘immediate and severe risk’ to the safety and health of residents.

However, the Commission opted not to revoke the service’s accreditation. Instead, the regulator issued Japara with a Notice of Requirement to Agree to Certain Matters and brought the accreditation period for the home forward to 14 September, 2021.

The Commission said it was aware the Queensland Coroner was investigating the death and would not comment on criminal investigations.
