Rockpool Aged Care reveals plans for $43M 180-bed ‘green’ aged care home in Brisbane

1 min read

Touted as Australia’s first 5-star Green Star rated aged care building, the home will be part of Carseldine Village, a new residential community being developed by Economic Development Queensland (EDQ) on the site of the former QUT campus, 15km north of Brisbane.

The community is the first residential development in Queensland to commit to delivering net zero energy emission homes with energy saving features and Rockpool’s facility will be part of the commitment with six levels of 30-bed communities.

Rockpool was founded in 2016 by Bill Summers (pictured right), who established Ashmore Aged Care in the 1980s before going on to co-found Domain Aged Care in 2002, now known as Opal HealthCare.

Their flagship 150-bed Morayfield facility near Caboolture was completed in 2019.

Carseldine Village is expected to be developed in five stages over the next three to five years with the 45ha site to include at least 600 homes, a Government office precinct, a sport and recreation precinct, childcare centre, commercial and retail space and 75% bushland.

Construction is set to commence in May 2021 with completion expected in October 2022.
