$23 million redevelopment of GenU’s St Laurence Park Retirement Village, south of Melbourne, enters first stage

1 min read

The $23 million revamp of the 137-dwelling St Laurence Park Retirement Village in Lara, 60km south west of Melbourne, has officially kicked off.

The redevelopment plan started when Karingal and St Laurence Community Services merged in 2016 under the new GenU banner.

GenU outlined a commitment to invest in new infrastructure and contemporary improvements at the St Laurence location, which was built in 1980.

The proposal includes “a slight increase in density from the existing arrangements” with a mix of one and two-bedroom dwellings across 40 single-storey units and 29 apartments in both single and double-storey buildings.

The first stage of the multi-million-dollar development will be to tear down the old and worn-out infrastructure before replacing it with 69 new, contemporary designed, accessible housing that is suitable for retirees.

GenU is partnering with BDH Constructions for the redevelopment with stage one already underway.
