Construction to begin on new retirement village in Deniliquin (NSW)

1 min read

The NSW Riverina town of Deniliquin near the Victorian border will begin construction on its new retirement village, with the first stage given the go-ahead by Edward River Council.

The Edward River Retirement Village, which went into planning last year, will consist of 32 homes built across five stages, with the fifth stage to complete in 2028-29 or sooner depending on demand; its first stage, comprising six two-bedroom units, will also include landscaping, services, and civil infrastructure.

To pay for stage one, Council voted to allocate $520,000 from its Infrastructure Reserve, as well as $1 million from the Murray Darling Basin Diversification Fund, with other grant funding currently being sought for the remaining four stages.

According to Council general manager Phil Stone, the development is sustainable and will provide an essential service to the Deniliquin community.

“The retirement living site is in line with delivering several key items from Council’s strategic plan,” he told the Deniliquin Pastoral Times.

“It will be a great place to live, will provide community access to essential services and allow our community to be safe, happy and healthy – both physically and mentally.”

An application has already been put forward for the second stage.
